Working Principle of Solenoid Valve
1. Principle of Direct-Acting Solenoid Valve: When energized, the electromagnetic coil generates electromagnetic force to lift the closing member from the valve seat, and the valve opens; when de-energized, the electromagnetic force disappears, and the spring presses the closing member on the valve seat, and the valve closes.
2. Principle of Step-by-Step Direct-Acting Solenoid Valve: It is a principle that combines direct-acting and pilot-operated. When there is no pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet, after energization, the electromagnetic force directly lifts the pilot small valve and the main valve closing member upward in sequence, and the valve opens. When the inlet and the outlet reach the starting pressure difference, after energization, the electromagnetic force acts on the pilot small valve, and the pressure in the lower chamber of the main valve rises while the pressure in the upper chamber decreases, thereby using the pressure difference to push the main valve upward; when de-energized, the pilot valve uses the spring force or the fluid pressure to push the closing member to move downward, closing the valve.
3. Principle of Pilot-Operated Solenoid Valve: When energized, the electromagnetic force opens the pilot hole, and the pressure in the upper chamber rapidly drops, forming a pressure difference with a low upper and a high lower around the closing member. The fluid pressure pushes the closing member to move upward, and the valve opens; when de-energized, the spring force closes the pilot hole, and the inlet pressure rapidly forms a pressure difference with a low lower and a high upper around the valve closing member through the bypass hole, and the fluid pressure pushes the closing member to move downward and closes the valve.

1. External leakage is blocked, internal leakage is easy to control, and it is safe to use
Internal and external leakage is a factor that endangers safety. Other self-control valves usually extend the valve stem and are controlled by the rotation or movement of the valve core by electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic actuators. This all needs to solve the problem of external leakage of the long-term moving valve stem dynamic seal; only the solenoid valve is completed by the electromagnetic force acting on the iron core sealed in the magnetic isolation sleeve of the electric control valve, and there is no dynamic seal, so external leakage is easy to block. The torque control of the electric valve is not easy, and it is prone to internal leakage and even breaks the head of the valve stem; the structural type of the solenoid valve is easy to control internal leakage until it drops to zero. Therefore, the solenoid valve is particularly safe to use, especially for corrosive, toxic, or high and low temperature media.
2. The system is simple and can be connected to the computer easily
The solenoid valve itself has a simple structure and a low price, and it is easier to install and maintain than other types of actuators such as control valves. More significantly, the self-control system composed of it is much simpler and the price is much lower. Because the solenoid valve is controlled by a switching signal, it is very convenient to connect to an industrial control computer. In today's era when computers are popular and prices have dropped significantly, the advantages of the solenoid valve are even more obvious.
3. Fast action, tiny power, and lightweight appearance
The response time of the solenoid valve can be as short as a few milliseconds, and even the pilot-operated solenoid valve can be controlled within tens of milliseconds. Due to its self-contained loop, it is more sensitive than other self-control valves. The power consumption of the solenoid valve coil designed properly is very low and belongs to an energy-saving product; it can also be triggered only to maintain the valve position automatically, and it does not consume power at all usually. The solenoid valve has a small external dimension, which saves space and is lightweight and beautiful.
4. The adjustment accuracy is limited, and the applicable medium is limited
The solenoid valve usually only has two states of on and off, and the valve core can only be in two extreme positions and cannot be continuously adjusted, so the adjustment accuracy is still limited to a certain extent.
The solenoid valve has higher requirements for the cleanliness of the medium. The medium containing granular substances is not applicable, and if it is impurities, it must be filtered out first. In addition, the viscous medium is not applicable, and the applicable viscosity range of specific products is relatively narrow.

Although the solenoid valve has inherent deficiencies, its advantages are still very prominent, so it is designed into a variety of products to meet various different needs and has extremely wide applications.
