Working Principle of Pilot-operated Solenoid Valve and the Difference between Pilot-operated Solenoid Valve and Direct-acting Solenoid Valve
The pilot-operated solenoid valve is a device that uses electromagnetic force to control the opening and closing of the valve. It consists of an electromagnet, a valve core, and a valve seat. The working principle of the pilot-operated solenoid valve is to generate a magnetic field by applying current to the electromagnetic coil, thereby driving the opening or closing of the valve core on the valve seat. When current is applied to the electromagnetic coil, the force generated by the magnetic field separates the valve core from the valve seat, thereby achieving the opening of the valve. Firstly, the actuation capacity of the direct-acting solenoid valve is limited by the force directly generated by the electromagnetic coil, while the pilot-operated solenoid valve enhances the actuation capacity of pressure or flow by adding control holes between the valve core and the valve seat. This means that the pilot-operated solenoid valve can withstand higher pressure and flow.
Secondly, compared to the direct-acting solenoid valve, the pilot-operated solenoid valve is more suitable for systems with higher control requirements. Due to the added control holes of the pilot-operated solenoid valve, it has higher sensitivity and accuracy. This enables it to have better performance in systems that are more sensitive to changes in temperature, pressure, or flow.
Furthermore, the performance of the pilot-operated solenoid valve is more outstanding under conditions of large flow, high pressure, and low pressure difference. Due to the design of the added control holes, the pilot-operated solenoid valve can better adapt to the requirements of different flows and pressures, thereby maintaining the stability and reliability of the system.
In general, the pilot-operated solenoid valve has stronger actuation capacity, higher control sensitivity, and better performance stability compared to the direct-acting solenoid valve. However, the pilot-operated solenoid valve also has some disadvantages, such as complex structure and higher cost.
